Middlehope Shield and Low Slit lead mines and ore works is a post-medieval industrial site located in Durham, representing the lead mining activity that characterised the Pennine region from the seventeenth century onwards. The site comprises the physical remains of lead extraction and processing, including mine shafts, spoil heaps, and associated structures that testify to the commercial exploitation of mineral resources during this period.
