Motte, Ards is a medieval earthwork defensive structure situated in the Ards Peninsula of County Down, Northern Ireland. The motte is a characteristic Norman fortification type, comprising a steep-sided artificial mound that would originally have been topped with a wooden palisade and tower. Built upon bedrock of the Gala Group wacke formation, the monument's construction exploited the local geology of this Silurian-age stone.
