North Ham is a horizontal mill situated northeast of the Town Loch on the island of Muckle Roe in Shetland, Scotland. The site represents a traditional form of water-powered grain milling technology that was widespread throughout Scotland and Scandinavia, where horizontal mills offered practical advantages in regions where topography and water resources made conventional vertical mills less feasible. The surviving remains indicate the typical construction of such mills, adapted to local conditions and materials available in the Shetland Islands. This monument reflects the agricultural and milling practices of medieval and early modern Shetland communities.
