Offa's Dyke is a linear earthwork that forms part of the longest monument of the Anglo-Saxon period in Britain, constructed during the reign of King Offa of Mercia in the late eighth century. This section, located south west of Stowfield Farm in Gloucestershire, represents the western frontier defence of the Mercian kingdom and marks the historical boundary between England and Wales. The dyke in this locality consists of a substantial bank and ditch, typical of the monument's construction method across its entire 149-mile length. As a scheduled ancient monument, this section preserves important evidence of early medieval territorial demarcation and demonstrates the scale of administrative and engineering capability of the Anglo-Saxon state.
