Prehistoric field system and unenclosed hut circle settlement on eastern slopes of Hart Heugh is an ancient monument comprising evidence of Bronze Age or Iron Age occupation and land use in upland Northumberland. The site consists of hut circles, field boundaries, and associated earthworks distributed across the eastern slopes of Hart Heugh, southwest of Earlehillhead, representing a settlement pattern characteristic of later prehistoric communities exploiting marginal upland terrain. The unenclosed nature of the settlement and the field divisions visible in the landscape indicate a pastoral and possibly mixed agricultural economy adapted to the moorland environment. Such dispersed hut circle settlements are significant for understanding the development of permanent or semi-permanent settlement and agricultural practice in northern Britain during the Bronze Age and Iron Age periods.
