Section of Rykneld Street Roman road and remains of Bronze Age cemetery at Littleover is a multi-period archaeological site in Derbyshire comprising two distinct phases of use. The site contains visible remains of Rykneld Street, a Roman road of considerable strategic importance that connected the fort at Rykneld (near Chesterfield) southwards towards the Midlands, demonstrating the Roman infrastructure network established during the occupation period. Beneath or adjacent to this road lies evidence of a Bronze Age cemetery, indicating that the location held significance for human settlement and burial practice in the prehistoric period, long before Roman road construction. The survival of both Roman and Bronze Age elements at this location makes it valuable for understanding the chronological depth of human activity in the Littleover area and the Roman road network's relationship to the prehistoric landscape.
