Sections of the Sweet Track and Post Track, 240 metres south west of Sunnyside Farm, is an ancient monument comprising remains of two Neolithic wooden trackways preserved in the Somerset Levels. The Sweet Track, dating to around 3800 BCE, represents one of the oldest known engineered roads in Britain, constructed from wooden posts and planks laid across marshy ground to facilitate passage across the wetland landscape. The Post Track, which succeeds it chronologically, follows a similar alignment and demonstrates the continued use and adaptation of this ancient routeway through the Neolithic period. Both trackways are archaeologically significant for their exceptional preservation in waterlogged conditions, providing crucial evidence for early settlement patterns, land use, and technological achievement in prehistoric Britain.
