Sections of the Sweet Track, the Post Track and associated remains 500m north east of Moorgate Farm is a Neolithic wooden trackway complex located on the Somerset Levels. The Sweet Track, one of the oldest known engineered roads in Britain, dates to approximately 3807–3806 BC and represents an exceptionally well-preserved example of early trackway construction, with timber laid in a distinctive pattern across waterlogged peat bog. The Post Track, a parallel contemporary structure, and associated archaeological features provide evidence of intensive Neolithic settlement and economic activity within this landscape. The waterlogged conditions of the Somerset Levels have resulted in the exceptional preservation of organic remains, including the wooden structural components that have allowed precise dating and detailed analysis of Neolithic engineering practices.
