Sections of the Sweet Track, the Post Track and associated remains 500m north east of Moorgate Farm is a Neolithic wooden trackway complex located in the Somerset Levels. The Sweet Track, dated to approximately 3800 BCE, represents one of the earliest known engineered pathways in Britain and was constructed using carefully laid wooden planks and pegs to traverse the marshy wetland environment. The Post Track, which lies nearby and dates to a later Neolithic phase, similarly reflects the sophisticated understanding of wetland engineering possessed by Neolithic communities. These archaeological remains, preserved in the waterlogged peat deposits characteristic of the Somerset Levels, provide exceptional evidence for Neolithic settlement patterns, land use, and technological innovation in Prehistoric Britain.
