Sourhope is a post-medieval unenclosed platform settlement and field system located approximately 1900 metres north of the named settlement in Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders. The site comprises evidence of domestic occupation in the form of platforms and associated outfield cultivation remains, characteristic of upland pastoral settlement patterns in the borders region during the early modern period. The unenclosed nature of both the settlement platforms and field systems reflects the agricultural practices and land use organisation typical of post-medieval transhumance or seasonal pastoralism in the southern Scottish uplands. The remains contribute to understanding of settlement evolution and land management strategies in this marginal upland landscape during the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.
