Stanhope enclosed settlement is an ancient settlement located approximately 800 metres south-west of Stanhope in Peeblesshire, Scottish Borders. The site comprises an enclosed settlement of Iron Age or Romano-British date, representing a significant example of settlement activity in the Tweed Valley during the later prehistoric and early Roman periods. The settlement is defined by its enclosing earthwork, which would have served both defensive and stock management functions typical of such sites in southern Scotland. The monument contributes to understanding the pattern of settlement and land use in the region during a period when Romano-British cultural influences extended into the Scottish Borders.
