Strata Marcella Abbey is a Cistercian monastery founded in the early twelfth century in the valley of the River Severn in Powys, Wales. The abbey was established as a daughter house of Abbey Dore in Herefordshire and became an important religious and economic centre in medieval Wales, with extensive landholdings across the region. The surviving remains include substantial portions of the stone abbey church and monastic buildings arranged around a cloister, demonstrating the characteristic layout of Cistercian houses. The site was dissolved during the Reformation in the sixteenth century, after which the buildings fell into ruin, though the stone fabric has been substantially preserved.
