Tamshiel Rig is a Iron Age fort, settlement and field system located in Roxburghshire, Scotland. The site comprises a defended enclosure representative of Iron Age settlement practices in the Borders region, accompanied by associated field systems that demonstrate the agricultural exploitation of the landscape contemporary with occupation. The fort's earthwork defences and the layout of settlement features reflect the social organisation and land use patterns characteristic of the pre-Roman Iron Age in southern Scotland. The survival of both the fortified settlement nucleus and its surrounding field systems makes Tamshiel Rig a significant archaeological record of Iron Age community life and economy in the Scottish lowlands.
