The monument comprises an earthwork enclosure dating to the post-medieval period, situated approximately seventy metres south-east of Tonnachrae itself. Such field enclosures are characteristic of the agricultural reorganisation and land management practices that developed in southwest Scotland during the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries.
