West Mains enclosure is a post-medieval field boundary feature located approximately 500 metres west-north-west of West Mains in East Lothian, Scotland. The site comprises a rectangular or sub-rectangular enclosure that reflects the agricultural reorganisation and land management practices characteristic of early modern rural Scotland. Such enclosures typically date from the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries and represent the consolidation and formalisation of field systems during the period following medieval agriculture. The feature survives as a linear earthwork or cropmark evidence of this important phase in the development of the Scottish agricultural landscape.
