Whelphill is an unenclosed platform settlement located approximately 390 metres west of Whelphill in Lanarkshire, Scotland. The site consists of a number of terraced platforms cut into the hillside, typical of prehistoric settlement patterns in upland regions of central Scotland. Unenclosed platform settlements of this type are generally dated to the Bronze Age or Iron Age periods, representing domestic occupation in areas where formal defensive structures were not constructed. The archaeological significance of such sites lies in their evidence for settlement distribution and land use patterns during the later prehistoric period in the Scottish Lowlands.
