Biography

Denver Pyle was born in Kit Carson County, Colorado in 1920 and worked as a film and television actor and director. He appeared in television roles across the 1960s through 1980s, including as Briscoe Darling on The Andy Griffith Show, Jesse Duke on The Dukes of Hazzard from 1979 to 1985, Mad Jack on NBC's The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams, and Buck Webb on CBS's The Doris Day Show. In his film work, he played Texas Ranger Frank Hamer in Bonnie and Clyde (1967). He died on December 25, 1997.
