Biography

Edgar Lee Masters was born in Garnett, Kansas in 1868 and worked as an attorney, poet, playwright, and writer. He published twelve plays, twenty-one books of poetry, six novels, and six biographies over his career, including works about Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, Vachel Lindsay, and Walt Whitman. He is known for Spoon River Anthology, released in 1915, along with numerous other volumes of essays, poetry, and prose. Masters died in 1950.
