Eugene William Pallette was an American actor born in Winfield, Kansas in 1889 who performed in both silent and sound films, appearing in more than 240 productions between 1913 and 1946. He began his career as a leading man with a slender build but later transitioned to character roles as a stout actor. His deep, gravelly voice became a distinctive feature of his performances in comedic parts, including Alexander Bullock in My Man Godfrey (1936), Friar Tuck in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), and Fray Felipe in The Mark of Zorro (1940). He also appeared in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and Heaven Can Wait (1943) before his death in 1954.
