Lawrence Cecil Adler was born in Baltimore in 1914 and worked as a harmonica player, jazz musician, film actor, and composer. He performed major works by George Gershwin, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Malcolm Arnold, Darius Milhaud, and Arthur Benjamin. In his later career he collaborated with Sting, Elton John, and Kate Bush. He died in 2001.
