In March 1471, Edward IV marched through the Midlands after landing at Ravenspur, gathering support as he went. At Coventry, Warwick refused to come out and fight despite Edward challenging him three times. Edward\'s brother Clarence, who had been allied with Warwick, then switched sides, dramatically strengthening Edward\'s position. The episode without a pitched battle was a major psychological turning point — Warwick\'s hesitation allowed Edward to consolidate, leading to the decisive encounters at Barnet and Tewkesbury.
