The Battle

History & Significance

The Sidbury Gate on the south-east of Worcester's city walls was the scene of hard fighting during the Battle of Worcester on 3 September 1651. Parliamentary forces pressed through the gate against stubborn Scottish resistance as the battle reached its crisis, and Charles II himself led a cavalry counterattack near this area that briefly checked the Parliamentary advance.
