History & Significance

Humphrey Arundell led the main Cornish rebel muster at Bodmin in June 1549 after the Prayer Book rising spread from Devon. Several thousand Cornish men gathered and marched east; they were joined by Devon rebels under John Bury and Thomas Holmes to form the combined army that besieged Exeter.
