History & Significance

Following Parliamentary successes in Lincolnshire, Royalist forces reoccupied Crowland Abbey in 1644 as part of a counter-thrust into the southern fens. This reoccupation threatened the supply corridor between Peterborough and Boston and forced the Eastern Association to divert resources from other operations to address the threat.
