History & Significance

Throughout 1644 Parliament repeatedly attempted to tighten the siege of Basing House and cut off supply convoys to the Marquess of Winchester's garrison. Several Parliamentary commanders including Norton and Waller attempted assaults that were repulsed. The garrison raided Parliament's siege lines and kept the house viable into 1645.
