History & Significance

Constantine I, son of Fergus — the first king to rule both Picts and Scots — held his court at Forteviot, the main Pictish royal centre. His reign (811-820) saw the formal union of Picts and Scots into what would become the Kingdom of Alba. Forteviot remained a royal centre into the early medieval period.
