The Battle

History & Significance

The Royalist garrison of Belvoir Castle conducted aggressive sorties throughout 1643 into the Vale of Belvoir and toward Newark, raiding Parliamentary supply convoys and disrupting Eastern Association communications. These sorties kept a wide swathe of Leicestershire and Lincolnshire under threat and forced Parliament to detach cavalry to protect supply lines.
