History & Significance

English administration in Gwynedd conducted punitive sweeps to remove remaining Glyndwr adherents from the Snowdonia fastnesses. The penal legislation of 1402 and 1404 against Welshmen was enforced; gentry who had sided with Glyndwr were stripped of lands or required to purchase pardons. Armed forays into Merionethshire targeted the last mountain bands.
