Beverley was a key assembly point for the East Riding host led by Robert Aske. The town, with its great minster and strong monastic connections, was a natural rallying point. Aske administered the Pilgrims oath here to thousands of commons and gentry, creating the organised force that would shortly threaten Hull and march on York.
