History & Significance

One of several proposed locations for the historically attested Battle of Badon. Liddington Castle in Wiltshire overlooks the old Ridgeway and was a major Iron Age hillfort. Scholars including Leslie Alcock have proposed this as the site. While the battle itself is historical (recorded by Gildas, a contemporary), the location remains one of the most contested in British military history.
