Farleigh Hungerford Castle on the Somerset-Wiltshire border held a Royalist garrison. Parliamentary forces under Edward Massey besieged it in 1645. The garrison surrendered on terms; the castle's chapel of St Leonard retains its original furnishings and medieval wall paintings.
