History & Significance

Following the crushing Parliamentary victory at St Fagans on 8 May 1648, Horton cavalry pursued the routed Welsh Royalists across Glamorgan. Several thousand were captured during the pursuit; others fled north into the hills. Scattered groups of Welsh Royalists resisted arrest in the hills above Glamorgan for several weeks. The pursuit effectively ended organised Welsh Royalist resistance in the south.
