History & Significance

The last of the great MacDonald-MacLeod clan wars in Skye. MacDonalds defeated a MacLeod force in Glen Brittle at the foot of the Cuillins. The battle marked the end of open clan warfare between the two great Skye dynasties — the crown's increasing authority and the economic changes of the period made such large-scale warfare impractical thereafter.
