The Battle

History & Significance

When the Duke of Northumberland rode north from London in July 1553 to intercept Mary Tudor before she could rally support, he passed through Cambridge and gathered troops along the way. Cambridge briefly became his forward base and muster point. However his forces began to melt away as news spread of Mary's growing support at Framlingham, and the Cambridge muster became his last meaningful concentration of troops before the coup collapsed.
