History & Significance

One of the decisive battles in Wales during the Civil War. The Parliamentary victory at Montgomery broke Royalist dominance of the Welsh Marches and opened mid-Wales to Parliament. Byron's Royalist force was destroyed trying to relieve Montgomery Castle. Welsh Royalism never fully recovered.
