History & Significance

After the defeat at Adwalton Moor, Bradford — the main Parliamentary stronghold of the West Riding — was evacuated and occupied by Royalist forces. The town had been defended by a combination of troops and armed clothworkers in previous engagements. Its fall completed Royalist control of the West Riding and left Parliament holding only Hull in all of Yorkshire.
