History & Significance

Raglan Castle — the most magnificent castle in Wales — was the last substantial Royalist garrison to fall in the Civil War. The 85-year-old Marquis of Worcester held out until August 1646. After surrender, Parliament ordered Raglan's systematic destruction — the great tower was deliberately undermined and toppled. The ruins remain spectacular.
