The Battle

History & Significance

Following Bruce victory at Bannockburn in 1314, the Campbells who had supported Bruce moved against the MacDougall-aligned lords still holding positions in mid-Argyll. The confrontation at Loch Awe was part of the systematic Campbell elimination of pro-MacDougall authority in the region and the first major Campbell territorial gain at MacDougall expense.
