Parliamentary storm troops assaulted the North Gate of Colchester during the 1648 siege in a direct attempt to break into the town. The assault was repulsed by Royalist defenders. Combined with the Head Gate and East Bridge attacks, the repeated Parliamentary assault attempts demonstrated the strength of Colchester's defences.
