The Battle

History & Significance

The great Welsh revolt of 1136 saw multiple engagements across south Wales. In addition to the famous battles at Kidwelly, Loughor and Crug Mawr, Welsh forces scored victories in the upland areas of Glamorgan and Gower. Mynydd y Gwair, the moorland above Gower, saw Welsh forces destroy a Norman patrol or detachment. The combined effect of these multiple victories in 1136 came close to driving the Normans from all of Wales.
