Norse raiders struck the diocese of Lindsey in Lincolnshire, plundering monasteries and churches along the Lincolnshire coast and Humber shore. The flat, fertile coastline was easily accessible by longship. This was part of the escalating pattern of coastal raids in the 830s that preceded the Great Heathen Army.
