History & Significance

The Battle of Mulroy in 1688 is traditionally called the last clan battle in Scotland. The MacDonalds of Keppoch destroyed a MacKintosh force accompanied by government soldiers attempting to enforce feudal superiority rights over Keppoch lands. The MacDonalds won convincingly. Government soldiers fled. The MacKintosh claim over Keppoch was never seriously pressed again. Within months the Jacobite revolution began.
