The Caledonian Canal from Laggan Locks to Loch Oich is a section of the early nineteenth-century waterway engineered by Thomas Telford to connect the east and west coasts of Scotland through the Great Glen. Construction of this portion took place between 1804 and 1822 as part of the broader canal project authorised by Act of Parliament in 1803. The Laggan Locks themselves, a flight of locks at the southern end of this section, were designed to manage the change in water level between the canal and Loch Oich, which forms the natural water corridor through Glen More. This stretch represents a significant feat of Hanoverian-era engineering, combining masonry locks and cut sections with existing natural water bodies to create a navigable route for vessels avoiding the dangerous waters around Cape Wrath.
