Llywelyn ap Seisyll, the father of Gruffudd ap Llywelyn, successfully resisted a Danish raiding force in north Wales. Welsh chronicles record his victory as a significant achievement. Llywelyn ap Seisyll had united Gwynedd and Deheubarth through marriage and military success, creating the framework that his son Gruffudd would build on to unite all of Wales. His death in 1023 was a setback that led to renewed dynastic conflict before Gruffudd emerged.
