The Battle

History & Significance

Following the collapse of Bigods revolt in early 1537 Henry VIII used the pretext of treason to execute not only the Bigod rebels but also the leaders who had negotiated the original Doncaster truce including Robert Aske. Aske was hanged in chains from Clifford Tower.
