The Battle

History & Significance

At Naseby on 14 June 1645, Henry Ireton commanding the Parliamentary left wing cavalry was overborne by the Royalist right wing under Sir Marmaduke Langdale. Ireton was wounded and unhorsed, briefly captured before being rescued. His cavalry was driven from the field though he attempted to rally some squadrons against the exposed Royalist infantry flank before the rout.
