The Frasers and Grants shared disputed marches in the country south of Loch Ness. Cattle raiding and land disputes brought them into periodic conflict throughout the sixteenth century. The Frasers, centred on Castle Dounie near Beauly, and the Grants of Strathspey contested control of the passes between their territories. This skirmish was one of many in a long sequence of low-level inter-clan violence.
Fraser and Grant forces c.50–200 each; disputed march skirmish.
