History & Significance

After their victory at Drumclog the Covenanting rebels pursued Claverhouse's routed dragoons for several miles across Strathaven Moor. The pursuit was vigorous and government losses were higher than in the battle itself. The Drumclog victory emboldened the Covenanting movement and thousands more flocked to the rebel army as it marched east toward Hamilton and ultimately to Bothwell Bridge.
