The Battle

History & Significance

Great Yarmouth was the most important port and trading town in Norfolk and Kett sought to control it to prevent royal forces landing or supplies reaching Norwich. Rebel sympathisers within Yarmouth and an attempted assault on the town gates tested the loyalty of the Yarmouth authorities, who ultimately refused to admit the rebels and kept the port open for potential royal use.
