The Battle

History & Significance

Part of the mopping-up operations after Kinsale. O'Sullivan Bere, Donal Cam, held out in West Cork. Crown president Carew systematically reduced the remaining Munster Gaelic lords after Kinsale. O'Sullivan Bere's subsequent march in January 1603 — leading survivors from Dunboy to Connacht — became one of the great epics of Irish history.
