The Battle

History & Significance

Edward Bruce — Robert's brother commanding the blockade of Stirling before Bannockburn — caught an English foraging party from the castle and destroyed it. The action demonstrated that the Stirling garrison was effectively trapped. This tight blockade was what led to the Midsummer deadline that in turn caused Bannockburn itself.
